A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a weekend shooting that left a young woman dead after an argument escalated in north Harris County on Sunday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the suspect as Javon Brown, who was taken into custody after the shooting near an apartment complex in the 12655 Kuykendahl Road area near West Rankin Road.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found two women suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where 22-year-old Julianna Cardenas was later pronounced dead. The second woman was hospitalized with injuries.
Investigators said the women, along with a man, were involved in an earlier altercation at another location before traveling to the apartment complex in an attempt to seek help. That man was not injured but was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Authorities said Cardenas had reportedly agreed to meet another woman involved in an ongoing dispute connected to a disagreement over a man. Officials said the confrontation escalated into an argument before shots were fired.
Brown was later arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, where he is being held on a charge of murder.
The investigation remains ongoing.
