The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) said officers were first called to a shooting near 110th Terrace and Greenwood at approximately 6:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they learned that a victim, later identified as 17-year-old Demetrius Smith, had already been transported from the scene by private vehicle.

Moments later, police were notified that a shooting victim had arrived at a nearby fire station. Smith was treated by EMS at the location and then transported to an area hospital with gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Preliminary information indicates that multiple people were present in the area when an exchange of gunfire occurred, during which Smith was struck.

Roughly 30 minutes later, at around 7:00 p.m., officers responded to a second shooting in the 7200 block of East 85th Terrace.

At that scene, 15-year-old Cavazion Williams had been transported by private vehicle to an area hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, Williams was also pronounced deceased.

Investigators believe Williams was outside a residence when one or more suspects opened fire, striking him before fleeing the scene.

KCPD says there are currently no suspects in custody, and both cases remain under active investigation.
