Officials say 45-year-old Damien Combs was shot on April 14 outside the Tangipahoa Alternative Programs campus on Crystal Street.

According to police, the incident began during a school drop-off when the 13-year-old refused to exit the vehicle. Authorities say Combs then decided to drive the child home. While leaving the carpool line, investigators allege the teenager shot his father inside the vehicle.

The gunfire caused the vehicle to accelerate across the roadway and crash into a home located across the street from the school. Combs was transported to a hospital, where he remained for several days before later dying from his injuries. No one inside the home that was struck was injured.

Authorities also reported that after the crash, the teenager exited the vehicle holding a firearm and began walking toward the school. He was quickly stopped by a school resource officer before reaching the campus.

The case remains under investigation by law enforcement officials.
