SUMTER, SC (April 13, 2026) – One man is dead and another charged following a domestic-related shooting Sunday.
Officers were called before 3:45 p.m. Sunday to a Mitchell Street residence where the shooting took place.
Officers found Jarmel Benjamin Ellis, 42, of the residence, inside with a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene before being taken to Prisma Health Tuomey where he later died.
Notification of family was made by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
The suspect, Devon Brown, 33, also of the home, was inside the house with the victim when officers arrived. He is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and was booked at the county detention center
The investigation is continuing.
