The Clarion and Santa Fe communities are mourning the tragic loss of Jon Kemmer, 35, a former Clarion Area High School baseball standout who was killed in a car accident on Sunday evening while traveling home from Houston to Santa Fe, Texas.
Kemmer, a 2009 graduate of Clarion Area High School and native of Shippenville, Pennsylvania, was remembered as an exceptional athlete and dedicated family man whose passion for baseball carried him from his hometown to the professional level.
During his high school career, Kemmer made a lasting mark on the game, including a remarkable senior season where he hit .727 with 11 home runs, 13 doubles, and 46 RBIs in just 66 at-bats. His talent led him to college baseball at Brewton-Parker College and Clarion University, before being selected by the Houston Astros in the 2013 MLB Draft.
His professional career spanned seven seasons in Minor League Baseball and two seasons in Mexico before he retired in 2021. After baseball, Kemmer built a life in Texas with his wife, Kourtney, where he continued to share his love for the sport by coaching young athletes and mentoring players in travel baseball.
Though he made a life in Texas, Jon never forgot his roots. He regularly returned to Clarion to give baseball lessons at The Garage in Shippenville, where he inspired countless young players with his knowledge and passion for the game.
His sudden passing has left family, friends, former teammates, and the entire baseball community in deep sorrow. Those who knew him are remembering not only his accomplishments on the field, but also his kindness, dedication, and love for his family.
Jon is survived by his wife, Kourtney, and their two young children, who now face an unimaginable loss.
As loved ones mourn, they are holding tightly to the memories, impact, and legacy he leaves behind.
May Jon Kemmer rest in peace, and may his family find strength, comfort, and healing in the days ahead.
