A violent incident at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan on Friday ended in a police-involved shooting after authorities say a man stabbed two people on a subway platform before being shot by responding officers.
Police reports indicate the attack occurred on the 7 train platform, where the suspect allegedly stabbed two individuals during a sudden confrontation. Both victims were rushed to the hospital and are currently listed in critical but stable condition.
Officers responded rapidly to emergency calls of a stabbing inside the terminal. During the encounter, police discharged their weapons, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that two officers sustained minor injuries while responding, though none are considered life-threatening.
Witness accounts
Witnesses inside the station described scenes of panic as the situation unfolded. One commuter said they heard “screaming and sudden chaos” before seeing people running toward exits. Another witness reported seeing police rush onto the platform moments before gunshots were fired.
“I just saw everyone scattering—people were pushing each other trying to get away,” one witness said. “Then the police came down fast, and everything happened so quickly after that.”
Others described heavy police presence and emergency responders treating victims on the platform as parts of the station were quickly cordoned off.
Ongoing investigation
Law enforcement secured the area shortly after the incident, with sections of the terminal temporarily shut down while investigators collected evidence. Blood was visible on the platform following the confrontation, according to early reports.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the full sequence of events.
