The Troup County community is mourning the loss of George Ellis, 70, who passed away after being found unresponsive in his dorm at the Troup County Jail in the early hours of April 11.
According to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, jail and medical staff were alerted at approximately 2:42 a.m. when Ellis was discovered unresponsive. Medical personnel immediately began life-saving efforts, including CPR and the use of an AED, before emergency responders with the Troup County Fire Department and AMR arrived and continued care.
Ellis was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials said the cause of death remains unknown pending an autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), which is also conducting an independent review into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
For loved ones, the news brings sorrow and unanswered questions as they come to terms with a sudden loss. Even in these early stages of investigation, what remains clear is the grief felt by those who knew him and the seriousness of the ongoing review into his death.
George Ellis will be remembered by family and friends as more than the circumstances of his final moments, but as a person whose life now leaves behind memories, reflection, and mourning.
Rest in peace, George Ellis. You are remembered and will not be forgotten.
