GPD ARRESTS SUSPECT IN SOUTH BENBOW ROAD SHOOTING; VICTIM IN STABLE CONDITION

A suspect is in custody following a daytime shooting in Greensboro that left one man injured, according to police.

Incident Overview

The Greensboro Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 10:30 a.m. on April 2, 2026, in the 1000 block of South Benbow Road.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male outside suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

Police identified the suspect as Xavier Wallace, 32.

Members of GPD’s Violent Crime Reduction Team quickly located Wallace in the area of Baker Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident.

Wallace is facing multiple charges, including:

Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury
Discharging a firearm within city limits
Altercation Led to Shooting

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect and the victim were known to each other. Investigators say an altercation between the two escalated, ultimately leading to the shooting.
