Authorities report that 27-year-old Patrick J. King, the father of Ava and the boyfriend of Felisha, shot and killed Felisha and the two children before taking his own life. Emergency crews, including SWAT teams from surrounding towns, responded to the scene after a family member called 911 reporting that King admitted to the killings and intended to end his life. Despite efforts to negotiate during a two-hour standoff and medical treatment afterward, King died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Felisha Matthews, described as a loving partner and devoted mother, died at the scene from gunshot wounds. Mileena Matthews, a student at the Middle School of Plainville, also died from gunshot wounds, as did her younger sister, 4-year-old Ava R. King. The children’s sudden and violent deaths have left classmates, teachers, and the community in shock. Counseling services were announced for students at Mileena’s school to help cope with the heartbreaking event.

The family had recently moved into the Plainville residence in mid-January 2026, and authorities confirmed there were no previous reports of domestic incidents at the home. The firearm used in the tragedy was legally owned by Patrick King, who held a permit to carry.

This unimaginable loss has left family, friends, and neighbors devastated. Town officials and community members have expressed deep sorrow and are providing support to those affected by the tragedy. Plainville Council Chair Christopher Wazorko said, “Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and everyone in this community who is grieving and searching for answers.”

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the lives of Felisha Matthews, Mileena Matthews, and Ava R. King, honoring their memory and offering condolences to their loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.
