The off-duty officer who died during the disturbance on Seattle Slew Lane has been identified as Adam Bean. Bean began his service with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in March 2006 and most recently served as the Assistant Chief of Detectives (Captain).

Shooting – Homicide Investigation
On March 27, 2026, at approximately 10:53 p.m., deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 1600 block of Seattle Slew Lane, Hope Mills, N.C.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a domestic disturbance occurred between two off-duty law enforcement officers. Upon deputies’ arrival, one male was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities confirm this was not a random act and that there is no threat to the public.
