The Regina Police Service has announced a third arrest in the homicide investigation surrounding the death of Michael Ross, a case that has deeply affected the Regina community since it first came to light in January.
Michael Ross was found deceased on the city’s west side after police discovered his body inside the trunk of an abandoned vehicle. The grim discovery marked the beginning of an extensive investigation that has since resulted in multiple criminal charges and arrests.
On Tuesday, police confirmed that Shyla Keewatin, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder and committing an indignity to a body in connection with Ross’s death. Keewatin is scheduled to make her first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Wednesday.
Investigators allege that she was directly responsible for Ross’s killing, though police have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to his death. Two other individuals were previously charged as the investigation unfolded.
Steven Lee Myslichuk, 37, was arrested on January 26 and appeared in court two days later, on January 28. According to court documents, Myslichuk is charged with knowingly assisting a person who had committed the murder of Michael Ross to escape.
He also faces a charge of indecently interfering with human remains on January 17. Police allege that Myslichuk helped place Ross’s body into a hockey bag, put it into the trunk of a vehicle, and drove around the city. His case is scheduled to return to court on February 4.
The third accused, Kobe Samuel Fiddler, 26, faces several serious charges stemming from events on January 19. Fiddler is charged with interfering with human remains, fleeing from police, and knowingly assisting the person responsible for Ross’s death to evade arrest.
He also faces weapons-related charges, including possession and concealment of a pellet gun and possession of a firearm while prohibited. According to the Regina Police Service, officers attempted a traffic stop at approximately 3 a.m. on January 19 near Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street.
The vehicle fled at high speed, prompting police to deploy the Aerial Support Unit. The vehicle was later located in the 1400 block of Princess Street, but the occupants had already fled the scene. Officers subsequently discovered a man’s body inside the vehicle’s trunk, later identified as Michael Ross.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police also secured a residence in the Pioneer Village neighbourhood, located in the 3700 block of Dewdney Avenue.
