On March 30, 2026 at approximately 8:00 a.m., an Amber Alert was issued after a vehicle was reported stolen with a 5-year-old child allegedly inside in the 8900 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Affton, Missouri.
Police located the stolen vehicle about a mile away and launched an extensive search involving K9 units, drones, and helicopter surveillance in an effort to locate the child.
Investigators later determined that while the vehicle had been stolen, the reported child abduction was fabricated. Authorities noted multiple inconsistencies, including the lack of photos of the child, no children’s belongings in the home, and statements from relatives that did not support the claim.
Ashley Collins, 29, and Kayla Williams, 31, were both taken into custody after admitting the child never existed.
Collins is charged with misuse of 911 and making a false report. Williams is charged with making a false report. Both are being held on $10,000 cash-only bonds.
Authorities say resources were diverted for more than five hours while law enforcement agencies conducted the search.
No child was abducted.
