Three people are dead following a tragic car accident Saturday night in Columbus, according to the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). The vehicle reportedly plunged into the river after striking a ramp at Ingram Barge Company, prompting a multi-agency response.
Staff at Ingram Barge Co. contacted law enforcement after hearing a collision and discovering what they believed to be a vehicle in the river. Emergency responders, including a diver from McCracken County Emergency Management, were sent into the water to secure the vehicle and assist with the recovery operation.
Initially, the occupants of the vehicle were unidentified. On Monday, the HCSO confirmed the victims as Joshua Watson, 42, of Louisville; Shranda Milan, 38, of Wingo; and Krista Whitt, 30, of Paducah. Authorities notified the families after confirming their identities.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office thanked all responding agencies, including McCracken County Emergency Management, Kentucky State Police, Buddy’s Wrecker Service, and Ingram Barge Company, for their assistance at the scene.
