Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the city, leaving one man dead.
According to the Staunton Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:00 a.m. on March 29, 2026, to the 200 block of Straith Street following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from injuries.
The victim was later identified as Rafael M. Johnson, 38, of Staunton, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police reported that individuals believed to be involved in the incident were located, interviewed, and later released. Officials have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community at this time.
