CHICAGO — A Friday morning in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood turned deadly after a verbal dispute escalated into gunfire at a busy intersection.
At approximately 11:14 a.m., 35-year-old Pierre White was standing near his Audi at the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Ferdinand Street when he became involved in an argument with another man, according to police. The disagreement quickly intensified, and the suspect produced a handgun and fired multiple shots.
White was struck during the shooting and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect fled the scene on foot and has not been identified or located.
Police secured the area and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses while detectives reviewed nearby surveillance footage in an effort to track down the shooter. No arrests have been made, and a motive has not yet been released.
The killing has left residents shaken, as the shooting occurred in broad daylight in a high-traffic area. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact Chicago police or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify the suspect and determine what led up to the fatal confrontation.
