A tragic head-on collision on Friday afternoon along Whiskey Road has claimed the life of one driver and left another fighting for survival, according to authorities.
The crash happened at approximately 4 p.m. near Ping Way when a 2024 Kia Sorrento SUV was traveling north on Whiskey Road. At the same time, a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction. Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the pickup truck’s driver, who was the sole occupant, attempted to turn into a private driveway. During that turn, the vehicles collided head-on, causing devastating damage.
The driver of the Kia SUV was identified as 46-year-old Carla D. Garvin of Aiken. Officials confirmed she suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sudden passing has left the Aiken community mourning a life taken far too soon.
The driver of the Ford pickup was seriously injured and was transported to Wellstar MCG Health with life-threatening injuries, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Eric Ramey. The individual’s identity has not been released, and their condition remains critical.
Authorities stated that neither vehicle had passengers at the time of the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision as loved ones grieve the heartbreaking loss of Carla D. Garvin and others wait anxiously for updates on the injured driver.
