A tragic early-morning crash on Interstate 55 has claimed the life of 21-year-old Jose A. Perez of Shorewood, leaving a community in mourning and an investigation now underway by Illinois State Police.

According to authorities, the fatal collision occurred on April 26, 2026, shortly after 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-55 near milepost 254.5, close to Black Road. Officials confirmed the crash involved three vehicles.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and pronounced one person dead at the location. Jose A. Perez was later identified as the victim. A 20-year-old woman was also injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
