An investigation is currently underway after a man was discovered dead inside the back of a semi-truck on Monday evening.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 16000 block of County Road 18 shortly after 5:30 p.m. following reports that someone may have been trapped inside the rear of a semi-truck that was loaded with sand.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a man inside the trailer. He was identified as 36-year-old John Chupp, and he was pronounced deceased.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death, and it remains unclear how long he had been inside the vehicle before being discovered.
The scene was secured as investigators worked through the evening to gather evidence and begin determining what led to the tragic discovery.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the case remains active and under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.
As the investigation continues, loved ones and the community are left searching for answers following the sudden and unexpected loss of John Chupp.
