Bryan Dargan, a 36-year-old Sumter resident and father of two, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon on a residential street, a brazen act of violence that has left the community shaken and authorities searching for answers.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner Robbie Baker, deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 4:00 p.m. on April 25 in the 500 block of Collins Street. Upon arrival, they found Dargan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by deputies and emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:27 p.m.

Investigators say the shooting occurred in broad daylight in what is typically a quiet neighborhood. Witnesses reported hearing several rapid gunshots followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away. However, officials have not confirmed suspect information, and no arrests have been made as of Monday evening. A motive for the killing remains unknown.

Dargan, a lifelong member of the Sumter community, is remembered by friends and family as a hardworking man devoted to his children. He is survived by his young daughter and son, as well as his mother and siblings. Loved ones describe him as someone who valued family deeply and was actively involved in his children’s lives.
