Two men were killed and a third person was injured in a violent triple shooting Saturday night in East Oakland, an incident that has left the community shaken and police continuing a wide-reaching investigation.
Authorities with the Oakland Police Department confirmed the victims as 31-year-old Derrick Hubbard and 24-year-old Isaanae Morton. A third victim survived the attack despite suffering gunshot wounds.
Police said the shooting occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 6400 block of Foothill Boulevard. Officers were first alerted to gunfire through the city’s ShotSpotter detection system, which picked up multiple rounds being fired in the area.
When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Hubbard and Morton later died from their injuries.
As officers searched the surrounding area, a third victim was located nearby on 64th Avenue, where the individual was found injured but alive and transported for medical treatment.
Investigators believe the gunfire occurred across multiple nearby streets, suggesting the shooting was widespread and chaotic. Evidence was collected from several locations as detectives worked to reconstruct the sequence of events.
At this time, police have not released a motive and say the investigation remains active as they work to identify those responsible.
The violence has deeply impacted East Oakland residents, many of whom say the shooting adds to ongoing concerns about safety in the neighborhood. Some community members expressed frustration and fear, calling for stronger efforts to address street violence.
Despite the tragedy, Oakland police data shows homicides in the city have reportedly declined by 39% in early 2026 compared to the same period last year. However, residents say incidents like Saturday’s shooting continue to leave lasting fear and uncertainty.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward as detectives continue their investigation into the deadly incident.
