South Lake Tahoe firefighter-paramedic Neil Schnaible is in critical condition after suffering a sudden heart attack while on duty, followed by serious injuries sustained in a fall during the emergency response.
Officials say Schnaible collapsed while actively working, prompting an immediate response from fellow firefighters who began CPR at the scene. Their rapid efforts restored his pulse, but his condition remained critical.
During the collapse, Schnaible struck the pavement, suffering severe head trauma that led to multiple brain bleeds, compounding the medical emergency. He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he remains under intensive care.
