Memphis Gunman Gets 3 Life Sentences Plus 221 Years After Livestreamed Shooting Rampage
In Memphis, 22 year old Ezekiel Kelly has been sentenced to three consecutive life terms without parole, plus an additional 221 years, for a 2022 shooting spree that brought the city to a standstill.
Kelly pleaded guilty to 28 charges, including first degree murder, attempted murder, and terrorism, after killing Dewayne Tunstall, Richard Clark, and Allison Parker, and injuring three others during a daylong rampage.
The attacks on September 7, 2022, triggered a citywide lockdown, shutting down public transportation and forcing schools to close as Kelly carjacked vehicles and fired at random. Parts of the violence were livestreamed, amplifying fear across the city.
His guilty plea spared victims’ families a prolonged trial and the possibility of death penalty proceedings. In court, Kelly expressed remorse, saying he was in the darkest place of his life at the time.
The case remains one of the most shocking incidents in recent Memphis history, raising ongoing questions about public safety and the role of social media in violent crimes.
Do you think social media platforms should play a bigger role in preventing incidents like this?
