The Kansas State University community is mourning the loss of Jack Fleischaker, a 19-year-old student whose death following a tragic accident has left family, friends, and classmates in profound grief.
According to authorities and family representatives, Fleischaker was seriously injured after falling from a second-story window at the Sigma Chi fraternity house near Kansas State University over the weekend. Riley County police responded to a medical assistance call around 3:15 a.m. Saturday, where they found the student critically injured.
Support the Family
In lieu of flowers, your kind contribution will help the family during this difficult time. Every gesture of support brings comfort and shows you care. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
Fleischaker sustained a traumatic brain injury and was transported for emergency medical care. Despite efforts to save him, he died Tuesday from his injuries, according to his family’s pastor, Rev. Gar Demo of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
“This is a tragic accident that nobody anticipated,” Demo said, describing the sudden and devastating impact on the family. “Every trajectory in their life has changed in an instant.”
Friends, classmates, and members of the fraternity community have rallied around the Fleischaker family in the days since the incident, offering support and sharing memories of a young man remembered for his presence and connections with others. His pastor noted the strength shown by those closest to him during an incredibly difficult time.
The loss is especially painful for the family, who experienced a similar tragedy years earlier. Demo recalled that Fleischaker’s older sister, Natalie, died from a brain tumor more than a decade ago, adding another layer of grief to the family’s current loss.
Fleischaker is survived by his parents, Stephen and Ashley, and his twin sister, Emily.
In a statement, Kansas State University extended condolences to the family and confirmed that support services are being made available to students, including members of the Sigma Chi fraternity. University officials emphasized the importance of counseling and community support as students process the tragedy.
As the campus mourns, plans for memorial tributes, including an honor walk, are expected to bring together those who knew Fleischaker to celebrate his life and offer support to his family.
While investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fall, those closest to him are focused on remembering his life and the impact he had in his 19 years.
