Troopers from the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on US 50 at the intersection of Veterans Parkway in Scioto Township, Ross County.
On April 19, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the Patrol’s Jackson Communication Center received a report of a crash involving a car and a motorcycle near Veterans Parkway.
According to investigators, a 2022 Hyundai Palisade driven by 79-year-old Lois Jones of Portsmouth was traveling eastbound on US 50 and attempting to make a left turn onto Veterans Parkway when it collided with a 2001 Honda VT750 motorcycle traveling westbound. The motorcycle was driven by 19-year-old Ryan Hayes of Chillicothe.
Officials said the motorcycle struck the left front of the Hyundai before sliding off the right side of the roadway.
Mr. Hayes was transported by Union Township EMS to Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, where he was later pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Ms. Jones was not reported to have suffered any injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Union Township Fire and EMS and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. Westbound US 50 was closed for approximately two hours while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
