Authorities are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that left two people dead Thursday morning on State Highway 164 in McLennan County, Texas, near the Mart area.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash happened around 6:30 a.m., about three miles west of Mart.
Investigators said a Nissan Sentra was traveling along the highway when it crossed the center line for reasons that remain unknown. The vehicle then collided head-on with a Ford Escape. A Nissan Rogue was also involved in the crash.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, identified as 55-year-old Anthony J. Fuentes of Waco, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Escape, identified as 64-year-old Rebecca L. Allen of Waco, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue sustained injuries that were described as not life-threatening, according to troopers. That driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
Officials said it is still unclear what caused the Nissan Sentra to cross into oncoming traffic. No additional details have been released at this time.
The crash remains under investigation by Texas DPS, as authorities continue working to determine the events that led to the fatal collision.
