NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 14, 2026) — A New Rochelle man previously reported as facing felony charges in a shooting case is scheduled to return to Westchester County Court for a plea appearance Wednesday following a grand jury indictment, according to court records.
Hairston was originally arrested following a Sept. 26, 2025, shooting at the intersection of Webster Avenue and Remington Place in New Rochelle in which authorities alleged he fired at a vehicle. According to prior reporting, police said a firearm connected to the case was later recovered from inside a couch. He was charged with felony weapons and assault offenses in connection with that incident.
Kenneth Hairston is charged under indictment IND-72746-25/001 in Westchester County Court after a grand jury in White Plains handed up an indictment transferring the case to County Court.
The indictment includes one count of attempted assault in the first degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Court records indicate all charges involve a semi-automatic handgun. He pleaded not guilty at arraignment.
The appearance of Penal Law § 110 in connection with the assault charge indicates it is charged as an attempt.
At the initial County Court appearance on Oct. 22, 2025, the court issued a temporary order of protection and adjourned the case.
Court records show the case has proceeded through conferences, motion practice, and determinations of readiness, with multiple adjournments. An omnibus motion filed Jan. 20, 2026, was disposed and partially granted the same day.
Subsequent appearances on Jan. 21, Feb. 25, and April 8, 2026, were adjourned.
The case is next scheduled for a plea appearance on April 15, 2026.
