Authorities said officers with the Atlanta Police Department responded around 2:13 a.m. to 2095 Metropolitan Parkway SW, where they found the teen suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, Mackey was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators said Rashawn was making food deliveries when he stopped at the gas station. While inside the store, he encountered a man who appeared upset, and the interaction quickly escalated into gunfire inside the business.

Police said it does not appear that Mackey and the shooter knew each other. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and witness statements as they work to piece together the events leading up to the deadly shooting.

The sudden and heartbreaking loss has left family, friends, and the Atlanta community in deep grief. Loved ones are now struggling to process the tragedy, remembering Rashawn as a young life full of potential whose future was cut short far too soon. Several witnesses inside the store at the time have been interviewed by investigators, and a nearby apartment complex was also searched by K-9 units as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities said evidence from that area is being processed.

As the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate, the community is left searching for answers and justice.
