According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Monday night, April 13, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Missouri Route 100, east of Dundee Road. Authorities reported that a 2011 Nissan Sentra, traveling eastbound, crossed the center line for reasons still under investigation and collided head-on with a westbound 2020 Ford Explorer.

The impact forced the Ford Explorer off the right side of the roadway, where it came to rest in a ditch. Emergency responders arrived and began lifesaving efforts, but the crash resulted in heartbreaking loss.

Officials confirmed that the three occupants of the Nissan were all from Hermann, Missouri. Mike Elbert, 47, and Rachel Elbert, 42, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. Their 10-year-old daughter was rushed to St. Louis Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 70-year-old woman from New Haven, Missouri, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Washington for treatment.

This tragedy has left an unbearable emptiness across Hermann. The 10-year-old child was a student at Hermann Elementary School, and Mike Elbert was known throughout the community for his dedication and service as a volunteer assistant football coach at Hermann High School. In response to the devastating loss, the Gasconade County R-1 School District offered additional counseling support for students, staff, and families.

Superintendent Dr. Geoff Neill shared the heavy sorrow felt across the district, stating it was “a sad day for that family—a sad day for our school district.”

As the investigation continues, the community remains united in grief, holding close the memories of a family whose lives were taken far too soon. Hermann now carries the weight of this tragedy together—mourning, praying, and remembering three cherished lives that will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Mike Elbert, Rachel Elbert, and their precious daughter. You will be forever loved and deeply missed.
