It is with profound sorrow that we remember Jon Kemmer, whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident in Santa Fe, Texas. At just 35 years old, Jon leaves behind a legacy defined by passion, dedication, and an enduring love for both his family and the game of baseball.
A native of Shippenville and a 2009 graduate of Clarion Area High School, Jon quickly made a name for himself as an exceptional athlete. His senior season remains the stuff of legend—batting an astonishing .727 with remarkable power and consistency, he became one of the most celebrated players in his school’s history. His talent and determination carried him beyond high school, first to Brewton-Parker College and later to Clarion University, where he continued to shine.
Jon’s hard work and commitment earned him the opportunity of a lifetime when he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 21st round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He went on to spend seven years in the minor leagues and additional time playing professionally in Mexico. Through every stage of his career, Jon’s love for baseball never wavered—it was a passion that shaped his life and inspired those around him.
After retiring from professional baseball in 2021, Jon built a life centered on family and mentorship. Settling near Santa Fe with his wife, Kourtney, he embraced his role as a husband and father with the same dedication he once brought to the field. His two young children were his greatest joy, and he poured his heart into creating a life filled with love, stability, and purpose.
Jon also found fulfillment in coaching, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation. As a coach for the HTX Battle Bucks 14U travel team, he was more than an instructor—he was a mentor, a motivator, and a role model. He believed in his players, pushed them to grow, and celebrated their successes as if they were his own. Even beyond Texas, he remained connected to his roots, returning to Clarion to offer lessons and guidance to young athletes who looked up to him.
His sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, players, and the many communities he touched. Yet, his legacy lives on—in the lessons he taught, the lives he shaped, and the love he gave so freely.
