When responders arrived, they discovered a car fully submerged in the creek following a serious single-vehicle crash.

According to the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, Sean was traveling east on Old Stage Road when he approached a curve near the entrance to Gebhard Woods State Park. For reasons that remain under investigation, he failed to negotiate the turn, left the roadway, and entered Nettle Creek, where the vehicle overturned and came to rest upside down in the water.

Rescue swimmers responded to the scene and were able to remove Sean Michael Rentauskas, the sole occupant of the vehicle, from the submerged car. He was rushed to Morris Hospital for emergency treatment, but despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced deceased in the early hours of Sunday morning.
