Upstate New York Mayor Arrested Again on Multiple Felony Charges Involving Alleged Child Abuse Case

Mayor Arrested for (Graping) Children.
A 62-year-old man who serves as mayor of the Village of Laurens in Otsego County was arrested again on multiple felony sex crime counts tied to alleged incidents involving a child more than a decade ago.
According to New York State Police, Frank Kovacs was taken into custody on March 19, 2026, at his workplace in Oneonta. Troopers transported him to Clifton Park for processing on a warrant. He now faces eight counts of first-degree (grape), three counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
State police say the charges stem from allegations that Kovacs repeatedly engaged in sexual assault against a child under the age of 17 in Clifton Park, Saratoga County, between 2008 and 2011. The claims indicate the alleged abuse started when the child was 13 years old.
This marks his second arrest in the ongoing investigation. Kovacs was first picked up in June 2025 by state police in Oneonta after an Otsego County grand jury indicted him on separate counts of first-degree (grape) and criminal sexual act.
