The community is deeply saddened by the passing of Ny’Leek Ellison, a 9-year-old elementary school student whose strength and resilience touched countless lives. Ny’Leek tragically died following injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident earlier this year.
Ny’Leek was struck on February 4, 2025, at the intersection of Ninth and Tilghman Streets while getting off a SEPTA bus after school at Chester Upland School of the Arts. Authorities said the driver fled the scene following the crash. Weeks later, police arrested Caleb Campbell, 22, of Philadelphia, and filed felony assault charges in connection with the incident.
After the accident, Ny’Leek faced a long and difficult recovery. Despite the life-altering injuries he endured, he showed incredible courage and determination, inspiring not only his family but also classmates, teachers, and the broader community. His strength became a symbol of hope and perseverance.
Chester Council Member Fred Green confirmed Ny’Leek’s passing, describing him as “one of the strongest kids I know.” His loss has left a profound impact on the city of Chester, where he was known as a bright, loving child with a promising future.
Ny’Leek is remembered as a beloved student and friend whose smile and spirit brought joy to those around him. His school community, along with family and friends, continues to grieve this heartbreaking loss.
“Our hearts are with his family, friends, classmates, teachers, and all who knew and loved him,” the school district shared in a statement. “As a community, we mourn this loss together and extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time.”
