A 22-year-old Nordic Maxwell Calhoun has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of an elderly pedestrian Tuesday evening in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
According to authorities, Nordic Maxwell Calhoun was taken into custody in South Carolina on Wednesday following a coordinated investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Officers with the Kings Mountain Police Department responded around 7:52 p.m. on March 24, 2026, to reports of a pedestrian being struck. Upon arrival, they found 83-year-old Kenneth Ray Mills, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit quickly began canvassing the area, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses, which led to the identification of a suspect. Working in coordination with the Clover Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office, authorities executed a search warrant at a location in South Carolina.
During the search, officials located a minivan believed to be involved in the incident. The vehicle had been partially covered in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal front-end damage consistent with a pedestrian collision. The minivan has since been seized and transported back to Kings Mountain for forensic analysis.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details at this time. Officials are reminding the public that anyone involved in a crash must stop and render aid, as leaving the scene can result in serious criminal charges.
