The Hartwell community is grieving the sudden and tragic loss of Robert James Maxwell, 56, of Hartwell, Georgia, who died in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Seneca, South Carolina, on Monday morning, March 23, 2026.
According to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office, the accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on Friendship Road. Robert was driving a concrete truck when the vehicle veered off the roadway and overturned. Emergency responders, including EMS and fire personnel, arrived promptly and provided life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at 9:35 a.m. The coroner ruled his death accidental. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
