The Tucson, Arizona community is mourning the tragic and heartbreaking loss of Colette Mukankaka, 71, and Donatille Nyiramugwera, 60, who were killed in a pedestrian crash on Thursday evening, March 19, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona.
According to the Tucson Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:20 p.m. to the intersection of East 29th Street and South Rosemont Avenue following reports of a collision involving two pedestrians. Personnel from the Tucson Fire Department also responded to the scene. Despite lifesaving efforts, both women were tragically pronounced deceased.
Investigators report that both victims were crossing East 29th Street from north to south within a marked crosswalk equipped with a HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) beacon, which had been activated at the time of the crash. The driver, a 65-year-old man, remained at the scene and, along with other motorists, rendered aid. Officials confirmed that the driver was not impaired. The driver has been charged with causing death by an applicable Title 28 moving violation.
