The Chicago community is mourning the tragic and untimely death of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University student, who was fatally shot while walking with friends along the lakefront on the city’s North Side early Thursday morning.
According to Chicago Police, the deadly shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Pratt Boulevard in Rogers Park. Sheridan was walking with a group of friends when an unknown male approached on foot, displayed a firearm, and opened fire in their direction. She suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that the suspect was wearing a face mask at the time of the incident, which took place on the pier at Tobey Prinz Beach. No other injuries were reported.
Loyola University officials expressed profound grief over the tragedy. In a statement, President Mark Reed said, “It is with profound sadness that I write to share that one of our students, Sheridan Gorman, was killed earlier today in an incident north of the Lake Shore Campus. This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out to Sheridan’s family, loved ones, and all who knew her. We are in close contact with law enforcement as they investigate and work to understand the full circumstances of this tragedy. Based on the information available to us now, there is no ongoing threat to our campus community.”
