An 18-year-old pregnant woman was shot and killed Monday night in Philadelphia’s Rhawnhurst neighborhood, and authorities say her boyfriend is now facing criminal charges in connection with her death.
Police identified the victim as Lemmarra Bradshaw, who was pregnant with her second child at the time of the incident. Officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 7000 block of Langdon Street, where they found Bradshaw suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead.
Investigators say the shooting occurred during an argument inside the home, which escalated into violence. Authorities have charged 29-year-old Robert Tatum with voluntary manslaughter. Police allege the fatal shooting happened amid a dispute that, according to early reports, may have involved something minor, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Family members, however, say the situation was far more serious, describing the relationship as increasingly abusive and unstable in the weeks leading up to the tragedy. Loved ones believe the incident was the result of ongoing tension and conflict, not a one-time disagreement.
Bradshaw’s mother spoke out following the loss, expressing overwhelming grief.
“My whole world is shattered right now,” she said.
The tragedy has left a young child without a mother. Family members say Bradshaw is survived by her 4-year-old child, and they are now mourning not only her death but also the loss of her unborn baby.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have not ruled out the possibility of additional details emerging as the case develops.
Community members have expressed sorrow and concern, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic violence and gun-related incidents, especially when they involve young families.
Authorities urge anyone with further information about the case to come forward as the investigation continues.
