The Ames community is reeling from the tragic and heartbreaking loss of Markasia M. McCuddin, 26, and her young son, Liam Sanders-McCuddin, 1, who were fatally stabbed at their home on March 13, 2026. Their sudden deaths have left family, friends, and neighbors devastated.
According to the Ames Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:42 p.m. to 3917 Tripp Street following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found Markasia and Liam suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate medical attention from both first responders and hospital staff, both tragically succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities identified Davontrez R. McCuddin of Fort Dodge, Iowa, as the suspect. He was arrested near the scene and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, a class “A” felony. Police report that there is no ongoing threat to the public, but the investigation remains active.
