According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near milepost 51 on State Route 40. Authorities reported that a box truck traveling eastbound drifted from its lane onto the dirt shoulder before reentering the roadway. The truck then crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound Chevy Silverado pickup carrying Herbert and Farnsworth.
The impact of the crash was severe. Investigators said the cab of the box truck became detached from its frame and came to rest upside down. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but tragically both occupants of the Silverado sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the box truck, whose identity has not been publicly released, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have not yet provided an update on his condition.
