According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 2:20 a.m. in a parking area located in the 400 block of North Jackson Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said Clayton Adams, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims, Dylan Bentley, 19, and Landon Skinner, 20, were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities confirmed that Bentley later died from his injuries on Sunday, becoming the second fatality in the shooting. Skinner remains hospitalized in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Family members of Skinner told local media that Adams and Bentley had attempted to help him when the gunfire broke out. Skinner’s mother described the two young men as “heroes,” saying they were trying to protect her son during the incident. She also expressed deep sorrow for the families who have now lost their loved ones.

Police have arrested Mark Desousa, 22, of Jefferson in connection with the shooting. According to investigators, Desousa is facing multiple charges, including malice murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery.
