Rex was the son of former Brad Culpepper and his wife Monica Culpepper. Born into a family known for determination and resilience, Rex carried those same qualities throughout his life, especially during the challenges he faced at a young age.

While playing football for Syracuse University, Rex was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in 2018. The diagnosis came during what should have been one of the most exciting times in his athletic career. Rather than allowing the illness to define him, Rex faced the battle with extraordinary courage. He underwent surgery followed by nearly 100 hours of chemotherapy treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.

After months of treatment and recovery, Rex achieved remission and returned to the football field that same year. His remarkable determination and positive spirit earned him the prestigious Jim DaRin Courage Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional bravery and perseverance.

Before his time at Syracuse, Rex had already built a reputation as a talented athlete at Plant High School, where he stood out as a quarterback. At Syracuse, he continued his football journey, playing both quarterback and tight end while earning respect from teammates and coaches for his work ethic and leadership.

Following his football career, Rex pursued a path in law, following in the footsteps of his family. He worked diligently through law school and achieved a major milestone when he was admitted to the The Florida Bar in 2024. Those who knew him described him as a dedicated young professional who approached his legal career with the same determination he had shown throughout his life.

Beyond his accomplishments, Rex was remembered for his optimism, strength, and compassion. His story resonated with many people facing difficult challenges, particularly those battling illness, and he became a source of inspiration for countless supporters.

Family members and friends have also shared that Rex had recently become engaged, marking the beginning of what many believed would be a bright new chapter in his life.
