Mother Pleads Guilty After Drowning Her Two Children in Separate Bathtubs
On July 19, 2021 at about 6:33 p.m., Henderson police and fire personnel responded to a residence in the 700 block of Calamus Palm Place near Galleria Drive and Stufflebeam Avenue in Henderson, Nevada for a reported medical emergency involving two children. Upon arrival, they found two young children unresponsive inside the home. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities launched a homicide investigation.
The victims were identified as 4-year-old Christopher Fox III and 1-year-old Gihanna Fox.
Investigators said the children’s mother, 38-year-old Jovan Trevino, later admitted she drowned the children in separate bathtubs inside the home.
According to police, Trevino told investigators she instructed Christopher to get into a bathtub face down, then used one of her legs to keep him underwater while holding his head down as he struggled.
Authorities said she then drowned Gihanna in a separate bathtub.
After the killings, investigators said Trevino drove to Bullhead City, Arizona, where she checked herself into Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.
Police said Trevino told hospital staff she had killed her children. She was taken into custody on July 20, 2021 and later waived extradition before being returned to Clark County, Nevada.
Investigators said Trevino left a note on a phone inside the master bedroom before the killings. According to court records, the note began with the words “do not delete” and “I’m sorry, sorry, sorry.”
In the message, Trevino wrote that the previous months had become “a serious mess” and said she feared suspension or dismissal from her job.
Authorities said Trevino was employed by Clark County’s Department of Family Services as a family services assistant at the time of the killings. Officials said her duties included monitoring visitations and helping families apply for assistance.
Prosecutors later charged Trevino with two counts of first-degree murder and initially sought the death penalty in the case.
On March 6, 2026, Trevino pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder as part of a plea agreement. Under the agreement, prosecutors agreed not to pursue the death penalty.
Trevino agreed to a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 12, 2026.
