Hortencia Ruiz Obituary- Death: The community mourns the passing of Hortencia Anzaldua Ruiz, age 85, of Gonzales, Texas, who peacefully passed away on March 5, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 14, 1940, Hortencia will be remembered for her lifelong dedication to family, her caring heart, and her warm, generous spirit. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who brought joy to all those around her. Hortencia enjoyed cooking, spending time with family, and solving crossword puzzles during quiet moments.
She is survived by her daughters Melissa Hernandez Flores (Santos), Irene Ruiz Perez (Angel), Amanda Ruiz Betancud (AJ), and Alexis Ruiz; sons Marty Hernandez (Cindy), Bruce Hernandez (Rachel), Christopher Hernandez (Carolyn), Hector Hernandez (Kelley), and Raul Campos (Tammy); her sister Janie Perez; brothers Alejandro, Pedro (Luisa), Manuel, and Armando (Mary) Anzaldua; 39 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Victoria Campos Anzaldua and Alphonso Anzaldua Sr., her sisters Patsy Garcia and Beatrice Trevino, her brothers Joe, Phillip, and Alfonso Anzaldua, several in-laws, and her grandson Mark Anthony Perez.
Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during the wake and funeral services. The visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Freund Funeral Home, 213 N Gonzales St, Cuero, TX 77954. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 215 W Courthouse St, Cuero, TX 77954, with Bruce Hernandez officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers include Gerald Christopher Flores, Ryan Christopher Garcia, San Juan Diego Perez, Michael Anthony Anzaldua, Phillip Anzaldua Jr., Anthony Settles, Marty Hernandez, and Nathan Campos.
