The family of Christopher Robinson Jr., the man critically injured in a shooting at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, says he remains alive on life support despite an earlier report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office indicating that he had died.
According to Robinson’s attorney, B’Ivory LaMarr, the 40-year-old victim is currently in an intensive care unit surrounded by family members. A spokesperson for the attorney said Robinson is not conscious but continues to be supported by life-sustaining medical equipment.
“He is still warm. He’s not lucid, he’s not awake,” the spokesperson said, explaining that Robinson remains on life support while the family considers difficult decisions about whether to remove him from the machines keeping him alive.
The medical examiner’s office had earlier stated that Robinson was pronounced brain dead at approximately 3:14 p.m. on March 2. However, officials later acknowledged an error in their report that said Robinson had already been taken in for an autopsy.
The shooting that left Robinson critically wounded occurred around 2:15 a.m. on March 2 inside the hospital’s emergency department area. Police say two people were shot during the incident, and a 37-year-old suspect was taken into custody shortly afterward.
Robinson’s family says the alleged gunman was already inside the emergency room when Robinson arrived seeking treatment for hip pain. They stated that Robinson did not know the shooter.
The case has sparked concerns about security inside medical facilities, as hospitals are generally considered places of safety and care. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding how a firearm was brought into the building and the events that led to the shooting.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as Robinson’s family continues to keep vigil at his bedside.
