UPDATE: Babysitter & Toddler Shot to Death; Suspect Arrested in Utah
On March 2, 2026, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers discovered two gunshot victims inside a vehicle after hearing multiple gunshots while conducting a traffic stop near Starr Avenue and Dean Martin Drive in the southwest Las Vegas Valley. Officers followed the sound of gunfire into a nearby residential neighborhood on the 11000 block of Victoria Medici Street, where they located a vehicle with multiple bullet impacts. Police approached the vehicle and found a woman and a toddler suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid until medical personnel arrived, and both victims were transported to University Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.
The victims were identified as Danaijha Robinson, 20, and 1-year-old Nhalani Hiner.
Investigators said Robinson had been watching a friend’s toddler at the time of the shooting. According to a fundraiser created by family members, Robinson had been caring for the child when the violence unfolded, describing the moment as one that “should have been ordinary and safe” before the family’s world was changed forever.
Authorities believe the shooting occurred while Robinson and the toddler were sitting inside a vehicle parked along Victoria Medici Street. According to reporting by 8 News Now citing sources familiar with the investigation, the suspect allegedly attempted to steal the vehicle before opening fire.
When officers located the vehicle, both Robinson and the toddler had been struck by gunfire. Officers provided emergency aid until medical personnel arrived and transported both victims to University Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.
Detectives later identified the suspect as 22-year-old Ziaire Ham. According to authorities, Ham was located on March 3 by the Ogden City Police Department and the Utah Highway Patrol in Utah.
Ham was taken into custody and booked into the Weber County Jail. Las Vegas authorities said he will face charges of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon and will be extradited back to the Las Vegas Valley to face prosecution.
