A tragic crash Wednesday night in Brunswick claimed the life of a young man from Sebago, according to police.
Authorities say the fatal crash occurred on Route 1 near the Route 196 ramp. Investigators reported that Brandon Macfarland, 22, was driving a 2023 Ford Transit on the on-ramp heading toward Route 1 northbound when the incident happened.
According to the Brunswick Police Department, Macfarland veered out of his lane and onto an icy embankment. The vehicle then went over a barrier and fell to the ground below.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Macfarland was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Brunswick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit, which is working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
