Jared Llamado Accused of Highway Stabbing Rampage on Interstate 495 After Crash; One Woman Killed, Three Injured
A deadly and chaotic series of stabbings along Interstate 495 in Virginia left one woman dead and three others seriously injured after a man allegedly attacked multiple victims following a crash, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jared Llamado, who investigators say launched the violent assault after what is believed to have been a road rage incident along the busy highway corridor. According to authorities, Llamado exited his vehicle after the crash and began attacking several women with a knife near the roadway.
One of the victims, 39-year-old Michele Adams, was fatally stabbed during the attack. Three additional women were seriously injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Officials said the victims were not known to the suspect and appeared to have been targeted randomly during the incident.
The violence prompted a rapid response from law enforcement. A trooper with Virginia State Police confronted Llamado at the scene and discharged their firearm, striking the suspect. Llamado was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said the trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure while an independent investigation into the use of force is conducted.
Authorities also confirmed that Llamado was an employee of the U.S. Department of State, though officials have not indicated whether his employment had any connection to the incident.
The attack caused significant traffic disruption along Interstate 495 while police secured the area and gathered evidence. Detectives are continuing to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the crash and the subsequent attacks.
Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured video of the events on the highway to contact investigators as the case remains under review.
