According to the Washington State Patrol, Pelilu was driving a 2018 Honda CR-V west on Highway 104 near milepost 9 around 6:53 p.m. when her vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the bus. The bus subsequently struck a 2008 Toyota Tacoma traveling behind Pelilu’s vehicle. The crash resulted in severe injuries for several individuals, including the bus driver, 62-year-old Michael Berrett of Port Townsend, who was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. The Tacoma’s driver, 41-year-old Christopher Fiorini of Sequim, and passenger Elizabeth Fiorini, 68, were hospitalized at Jefferson General Hospital with injuries. Pelilu was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved.
