The Nederland community is grieving the tragic loss of 17-year-old Jose Manuel Banda, a beloved student at Nederland High School, who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a devastating auto-pedestrian crash in Jefferson County, Texas.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred around 4 p.m. on Highway 69 North at Spurlock Road. Authorities reported that Jose Manuel Banda was struck by a dump truck under circumstances that remain under active investigation. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Banda succumbed to his injuries.

Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett has ordered an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash. Highway 69 North was closed for several hours following the incident and reopened shortly before 7 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety assisted local deputies in managing the scene and directing traffic.
