Fire crews responded to reports of a residential blaze early in the morning, arriving to find heavy flames and smoke engulfing the home. Neighbors reported hearing popping sounds and seeing thick smoke pouring from the structure before emergency responders arrived.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties. After bringing the blaze under control, crews conducted a search of the residence and located the elderly homeowner inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials also confirmed that the man’s pet perished in the fire.

Preliminary investigations indicate the fire may have started inside the home, though the exact cause remains under review. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting local fire officials in determining how the blaze ignited. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.

Neighbors described the victim as a longtime resident of the area. Several community members gathered near the scene as investigators examined the charred remains of the home.

Officials are reminding residents to ensure smoke alarms are functioning properly and to review home fire safety plans, particularly during colder months when heating equipment can increase fire risks.

The investigation remains ongoing.
